What Dele Alli said to Ashley Young during their little incident is absolutely priceless

When Tottenham arrived at Manchester United on Saturday afternoon, the footballing world was hoping for an entertaining meeting between two of the Premier League's finest teams.

Instead, they were treated to perhaps the dullest fixture of the season, with neither side seemingly capable of stringing a good attacking move together.

In the end, the game was decided by pure route one football, with Romelu Lukaku winning a flick on and putting through Anthony Martial, who scuffed his shot past Hugo Lloris.

It was a priceless three points for Jose Mourinho's side, who made sure they kept pace with Manchester City at the top of the table.

There were few moments to be analysed throughout the game and the most talked about incident certainly wasn't pretty.

Dele Alli and Ashley Young had something of an altercation, with the United man clearly trying to get the fiery Spurs midfielder to react and get himself in trouble with the referee.

Luckily for Mauricio Pochettino, the former MK Dons man did not provoke him, but that didn't mean there wasn't a war of words between the two Englishman.

It was Alli who started the argument and what he said to Young was truly priceless.

According to Manchester Evening News, he told the 32-year-old that he should "retire with a zimmerframe".

Ouch, not the nicest of things to say, however, the United man had the last laugh as he instructed the Spurs midfielder not to speak to him so disrespectfully until he has won something.

He even posted an indirect tweet at his opponent following their victory at Old Trafford.

Yes, talk is certainly cheap, particularly when two players bicker on a football pitch.

Former United star and Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville believes he knows exactly what Young was trying to do throughout the ordeal.

"Ashley Young knows exactly what he is doing and there might have been a time when Dele Allii would have reacted and thrown his head forward, but he hasn't," Neville said on commentary for Sky Sports.

"His [Alli's] heart would have been saying 'I want to break your nose,' his head would have been saying, 'don't lose the game for my team.'"

It's a dirty tactic to use but in the modern day, gamesmanship is a big part of the sport.
