FHIN graduates 2,500 officers, commends NASS on bill passage


Food Hygiene Initiative of Nigeria (FHIN), have trained, screened and graduated over two thousand five hundred officers to help promote food hygiene standard practices in the country.

Amb. Dr. Nicholas Karimu, Director General of FHIN, who commended the National Assembly for passing a Bill seeking for an act to establish Nigeria Food Vendors Bio-Data Collection Agency during the passing out ceremony of the officers on Sunday, task them on ethics and values at their respective assignments.

Karimu said since inception in 2014, the organisation has been aggressively promoting food hygiene standards practices all over the Nation with a specific mandate of ensuring good food for better health.

According to him, the importance of this Training and National Screening cannot be overemphasized, thus FHIN is dedicated to food vendors Bio-Data capturing to apply the best hygiene and safe food handling standard practices in Nigeria.

“Our commitment to promoting healthy by setting food hygiene standard practices in Nigeria is making progress as National Board of Trustee recently presented another Bill seeking for an Act to establish the Nigeria Food Bio-Data Collation Agency to the National Assembly.

“This opportunity has exposed all the trained and screened officers to new knowledge that would enable them adopt modern techniques for food vendors Bio-Data capturing to reduce food poisoning.

“As we await the public hearing, we humbly call on all the House of Representative Members to critically look at the various benefits such as job creation, youth empowerment and safe food for the entire populace.”

The DG, however called on food related sister agencies to put selfish and personal interest aside and support the bill as the country at large will fully benefit from its overall impact.

He added that the bill if finally passed will enable the country have an Agency that is fully responsible for regulating training and engaging in Bio-Data capturing of all food vendors in Nigeria to develop a standard food and water vendors identification Number for simple traceability system of any food poisoning and mishandling cases.
